 A Week to Remember

What a week it has been for the New York Mets. Just when it looked like there was no turning around this team and this season the Mets pull it together. They dragged us back and made us believe again. It all started with the kids. Well technically it started with Senga. Let’s get into it.

The Mets went into last Wednesday (6/17) having lost the first game to the 1st place (in the AL East and the league) Rays. Kodai Senga went out and fanned 12, yes 12, in 6 innings and giving up just 1. The Mets went into the 7th down 2 and once again it looked hopeless. That was until Mark Vientos stepped to the plate and hit a ball out to left-center field that JUST cleared the wall tying the game. The Kids have arrived. Otto came on and promptly gave up 3 runs breaking our hearts once again. Then came Francisco Alvarez with 2 on and 2 out in the bottom of the 9th. He hit a towering 3-run homer to tie it to which Robertson answered by giving up 2 runs in the top of the 10th. The magic was not done yet. Pete came up with 2 on and 1 out and he hit a monster 3 run shot to walk it off.

That was a very long-winded recap of one game, but it was too good not to want to relive. It feels like the kids saved the season and Pete topped it off.

The Mets went on to win the next 4 games sweeping the Guardians in dramatic fashion on multiple nights. In one, Pete hit a game tying grand slam, Alvarez tied the game with a double in extras and Lindor walked it off. The other was a Marte home run that put the Mets in front in the 8th and that was a lead they would not give up.

Max Scherzer and Justin Verlander combined to pitch 14 innings in their starts on Sunday giving up just 1 run. This is what we paid for.

The “Baby Mets” are here and here to stay. They are ready to show us what they got (as long as Buck lets them).

Good to be back
