PIITB By JD- Weekly Recap

Image
PIITB by JD- Weekly Recap     The Mets have been pretty mediocre over the last week once again. When the offense showed up, the pitching falters and when the pitching shows up the offense is nowhere to be seen. It is time for the Mets to start putting together the two and show us what they can really do.    I do not believe we are far off from seeing that happening. The offense has seemingly turned the corner with Francisco Alvarez on FIRE. Pete and Alvy are providing much-needed power to the Mets lineup. Alvarez has 3 home runs in the last week with an 885 season OPS and Pete has gone yard twice as well. Pete now sits at 20 homers.   Cubs series (Record 1-2) Stroman shut the Mets down for 8 innings in game 2, you can imagine how that went.  The lone bright spot pitching-wise of this series was Carlos Carrasco. He went 6.2 innings of 1 run ball in the series' final game. He saved the Mets from the sweep and the offense put on a show.    Roc...

PIITB By JD- A Week To Remember

Image
A Week to Remember     What a week it has been for the New York Mets. Just when it looked like there was no turning around this team and this season the Mets pull it together. They dragged us back and made us believe again. It all started with the kids. Well technically it started with Senga. Let’s get into it.               The Mets went into last Wednesday (6/17) having lost the first game to the 1 st  place (in the AL East and the league) Rays. Kodai Senga went out and fanned 12, yes 12, in 6 innings and giving up just 1. The Mets went into the 7 th  down 2 and once again it looked hopeless. That was until Mark Vientos stepped to the plate and hit a ball out to left-center field that JUST cleared the wall tying the game. The Kids have arrived. Otto came on and promptly gave up 3 runs breaking our hearts once again. Then came Francisco Alvarez with 2 on and 2 out in the bottom of the 9 th . He ...

PIITB By JD- Continued Thoughts on The Season

Image
PIITB By JD- Continued Thoughts on The Season I usually use my weekly post to summarize the previous weeks games and give some insight. I have gotten away from that in the last couple weeks because I simply don’t want to think about those games again. This week is no different, today is some brief thoughts on the team.   Positive notes: The rotation is looking to be more consistent now with Peterson out and Carrasco due back. I did not imagine I would be looking forward to Carrasco returning. Hopefully with the same 5 guys going around they will all be more consistent.    The back end of the bullpen has been good.    That is all the positive notes I have   Negative notes: Literally everything else.   This team has no fire. The dugout tonight (5/16) was lifeless. Nobody was making any noise or chatting at all in the dugout, Everyone looks like they would rather be anywhere else.   The offense is inept.    The starters give up runs ...

PIITB by JD- My Reaction to the Mets so far

PIITB By JD- My reaction to the Mets so far   I decided to take a break from the weekly recaps to discuss the team as a whole. I have some MAJOR concerns about the roster that simply can not be ignored. I am not panicked yet, as it is still early May. I made a rule with myself a long time ago not to panic until at least memorial day. I am sticking to that, but that does not mean the Mets are without glaring long-term issues.     First I want to start with the obvious concern. The pitching staff. The Mets currently rank 22 nd  in ERA overall. That is an improvement on last week when the Mets were ranked 29 th . The current starting rotation is Max Scherzer, Justin Verlander, Kodai Senga, Joey Luchessi, and Tylor Megill. Looks pretty solid right? Wrong! Let us start with Max.   Scherzer is pitching to a 5.56 era over his 5 starts and has only thrown 22.2 innings! The point of signing two aces was to alleviate the strain on the bullpen on the days those guys...
