PIITB by JD- Pitcher Grades for the 2023 Season

PIITB By JD- Pitcher Grades for the 2023 Season   We covered the Mets Offensive players a couple of weeks ago and graded their performances. Here are the pitchers…   Kodai Senga: Let's start with a fun one. Senga blew everyone away in his rookie season. He started out walking a lot of batters but improved as the season went on. A 2.98 era, over 200ks, and 166IP are numbers I would sign up for every year. I would like for him to adjust closer to a 5 man rotation schedule, but Senga was fantastic. Final grade: A   Tylor Megill: Tylor had an up and down season for the Mets. He started 25 games this year and pitched to a 4.70 era. He could not pitch past the 5 th  inning very often and as a result only threw 126 innings. Final Grade: C-   David Peterson:  David Peterson was not very good this year. He struggled to a 5.03 era over 111 innings. He got 21 opportunities to start and could not get himself in a groove. His command faltered and home run ra...

PIITB by JD- Offense Player Grades for the 2023 Season     Francisco Lindor: With his first 30-30 season under his belt, Lindor has once again proven to us that he is one of the best shortstops in the league. Another slow start lowered his batting average, but his second half was nothing short of fantastic. Final Grade: A-   Brandon Nimmo: Nimmo enjoyed the best offensive season of his career.  He finished with an 829 OPS and a career-high 24 home runs. He played another great year in centerfield. He did move around to the corners a bit for extra rest. Nonetheless, he played in 152 games which is great to see from Nimmo. Grade: A   Jeff McNeil: Jeff had a truly terrible first half. He did not look like himself. Perhaps the banning of the shift affected Jeff negatively. He had a much better second half but had a lackluster season overall. Grade: C+   Pete Alonso: Pete had the worst offensive season of his career by some measures. Only an 821 OPS ...

PIITB By JD- Reaction To Billy Eppler’s Resignation   Unexpectedly today, Thursday October 5, around 4:15 pm word got out that Billy Eppler had resigned as General Manager of the Mets. This came as a shock considering how vocal Steve and Billy had been in the past regarding his status after hiring a President of Baseball Operations. Steve repeatedly voiced his confidence in Billy and said he would remain, but David Stearns had other plans.    I was curious about potential reasoning and explanations for his “resignation”. He said he wants David to have a clean slate. I believe the conversation went something along the lines of, “you can resign, or we will fire you” between Stearns and Billy. I do think there was some animosity on Billy’s end. Why would you want to work somewhere where you used to be in charge and now you have to listen to someone above you that you may not always agree with and does not give you free rein? David Stearns wants his guy and that is com...
